Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Tuesday conferred Indonesia’s highest civilian honour, the ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’ (Star of the Republic of Indonesia), by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during his State Visit to Jakarta, recognising his leadership in strengthening bilateral ties and advancing the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.The prestigious award was presented at the Istana Merdeka (Presidential Palace) after PM Modi received a grand ceremonial welcome and a formal Guard of Honour, marking the beginning of his official engagements in Indonesia.

Expressing gratitude after receiving the honour, PM Modi dedicated the award to the people of India.“This morning, I was honoured with Indonesia’s highest civilian award with great affection. This honour belongs to the millions of people of India. It reflects the sentiments of the people of Indonesia and symbolizes the historic and deep-rooted relations between India and Indonesia. I sincerely thank President Prabowo ji, the Government of Indonesia, and the people of Indonesia for this honour,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
According to media reports,the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the award reflects the enduring friendship between the two nations.MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’ was conferred in recognition of PM Modi’s leadership in strengthening India-Indonesia relations and promoting unity, continuity and prosperity. He added that the Prime Minister dedicated the honour to the people of India and the longstanding bonds of friendship between the two countries.Instituted in 1959, the Bintang Adipurna is Indonesia’s highest civilian and military honour. It is awarded to individuals who have rendered outstanding service towards the unity, continuity and prosperity of the Republic of Indonesia and made exceptional contributions to safeguarding the country's integrity, stability and national greatness.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Istana Merdeka, where President Prabowo personally received him.

The Prime Minister also signed the visitors’ guestbook before the two leaders held bilateral talks aimed at further deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.The meeting was attended by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri from the Indian side. The leaders reviewed progress across key areas of cooperation and discussed ways to expand collaboration in priority sectors.

Following the meeting, PM Modi described the discussions as "productive", saying India-Indonesia ties have gained new momentum and greater depth in recent years. He said the talks covered trade, human development, agriculture, food security, healthcare, as well as defence, security and maritime cooperation, reflecting the shared priorities of the two Indo-Pacific nations.

Describing the visit as an important milestone, Randhir Jaiswal said it would open new avenues of cooperation while reinforcing the deep trust, shared values and enduring friendship between India and Indonesia.PM Modi arrived in Jakarta on Monday as part of the first leg of his three-nation tour. His arrival was marked by a ceremonial reception, including an escort by Indonesian Air Force fighter jets as his aircraft entered Indonesian airspace. President Prabowo personally welcomed the Prime Minister at the airport, where he was also greeted with a traditional cultural performance.
During his three-day visit from July 6 to 8, PM Modi is also scheduled to address the Indian diaspora in Jakarta and visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, underscoring the centuries-old civilisational and cultural links between India and Indonesia.The visit marks PM Modi’s fourth visit to Indonesia and his first bilateral visit since the two countries elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.
