India to host BRICS Women Ministerial meeting in Kochi on July 8-9

India is set to host the BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting in Kochi, Kerala, on July 8 and 9 as part of its BRICS Chairship 2026, with ministers and senior representatives from BRICS nations expected to discuss ways to enhance cooperation on women’s empowerment and drive inclusive, sustainable and resilient growth.
According to agency reports,the ministerial meeting forms part of India’s BRICS Chairship, which is guided by the four key pillars of Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability. The BRICS Women Track has been structured around these priorities to promote women-led development and deepen collaboration among member nations.
The meeting follows the BRICS Women Working Group Meeting, held on July 6 and 7, where senior officials deliberated on priority areas under the Women Track. Building on those discussions, ministers will review the proposed outcomes and provide strategic direction to further strengthen cooperation on issues related to gender equality and women’s empowerment.Guided by India’s Chairship theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” the ministerial meeting will focus on promoting women’s leadership, expanding economic opportunities, strengthening digital and financial inclusion, fostering entrepreneurship, and recognising women’s contributions to climate action, food security and nutrition.

According to the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the deliberations aim to foster practical cooperation among BRICS countries and accelerate progress towards gender equality through a people-centric and humanity-first approach.The two-day event will also feature exhibitions showcasing India’s achievements in women-led development across sectors such as rural development, STEM, nutrition and education. These exhibitions will highlight initiatives that have empowered women and enhanced their participation in nation-building.A plenary session and thematic panel discussions involving policymakers, experts and practitioners from BRICS member countries will provide a platform to exchange best practices, share innovative solutions and strengthen partnerships for advancing women’s empowerment.
