The Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) has welcomed the reported decision of 20 rebel Members of Parliament elected on the ticket of the All India Trinamool Congress(AITC) to merge with the party, with NCPI leaders indicating that discussions on the future course of action could begin soon. The development comes after rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar announced that 20 Lok Sabha MPs who were elected from the Trinamool Congress have decided to merge with the NCPI and extend their support to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Reacting to the announcement, NCPI founder and National Organising Secretary Shantanu Dey said he learned about the development through social media and news reports but welcomed the move, describing it as a positive step for the party's growth."I got to know about this from social media and the news. I welcome them to hold talks with me. Why won't I be happy if my party grows? I have heard that the decision was taken by the party president. He has not called me about this yet," Dey said.He added that the expansion of the party would strengthen its ability to contribute to national development and reiterated NCPI's support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA government.
"I want to take the party forward. If my party grows, we will be able to work for the country. We support PM Modi and wish to work with the NDA for the nation," he said.Dey also indicated that the party is open to discussions with the rebel MPs and suggested that meetings could take place in New Delhi in the coming days."If Kakoli Di speaks to us, then we will certainly go to Delhi. I am hopeful that we will talk. We will hold a press meet soon," he added.

The announcement by Dastidar, if formalised, could mark a significant political development, as it would involve a sizeable group of parliamentarians shifting allegiance from the Trinamool Congress to the NCPI while pledging support to the NDA.Neither the Trinamool Congress leadership nor other concerned authorities had issued an official response immediately following the claims. Further clarity is expected after the proposed discussions and press conference announced by NCPI leaders. The reported merger comes amid heightened political activity ahead of upcoming electoral contests, with parties seeking to consolidate support and expand their organisational presence across key regions.
