Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the ruling TMC during a rally in West Bengal, alleging that public enthusiasm at his gatherings reflects growing anger against what he described as the party’s “Nirmam Sarkar” (cruel government).
Addressing a large gathering in Bishnupur in Bankura district, Modi accused the TMC of breaking laws to benefit infiltrators and engaging in vote-bank politics. “This is the same TMC that breaks every law and rule to benefit the infiltrators. This is the same TMC that is busy giving reservations on the basis of religion, destroying the spirit of community,” he said.
The Prime Minister also raised concerns over reservation policies, alleging that the ruling party was attempting to extend benefits based on religion in violation of the Constitution. “TMC wants to give reservations to its vote bank against the Constitution,” he said, urging voters to hold the party accountable.

Targeting the state leadership, Modi said the TMC government had ignored sections like the Kudmi community while prioritising political interests. “TMC is not ready to listen to our Kudmi Samaj here. It listens to the infiltrators and not the Kudmi Samaj,” he added. In a direct appeal to voters, particularly women, the Prime Minister said, “I will tell every sister and daughter of Bengal that TMC must be punished. You must punish TMC severely. The ‘Maha Jungle Raj’ deserves severe punishment.”
The rally in Bishnupur marked the beginning of Modi’s multi-district tour across western and south-western parts of the state. He is scheduled to address successive public meetings in Purulia, Jhargram, and Medinipur. The rallies assume significance as the BJP looks to consolidate its support base in these regions, where it had performed strongly in previous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.Elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
