Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday announced a series of measures aimed at strengthening farmer welfare, including assured daytime electricity supply for irrigation and an enhanced wheat procurement target for the ongoing season.The Chief Minister said the state has received approval from the Centre to raise its wheat procurement target from 78 lakh metric tonnes to 100 lakh metric tonnes, calling the move a tribute to the hard work and resilience of farmers.
Addressing citizens through a social media message, Yadav emphasised that slot bookings for selling wheat at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) have been fully opened for all farmers, irrespective of scale. Procurement centres will operate six days a week, including Saturdays, while the deadline for slot bookings has been extended from April 30 to May 9.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to farmer prosperity, Yadav said “true promises and concrete action” form the foundation of his administration. He added that the vision of a “Developed Madhya Pradesh by 2047” is anchored in the strength of the state’s farmers, whom he described as its greatest asset.Highlighting ongoing reforms, the Chief Minister said efforts are underway to ensure daytime electricity for agricultural use. Under the Krishak Mitra Yojana, solar pumps are being distributed with a 90 per cent subsidy to help farmers become energy self-reliant.He also pointed to significant gains in the dairy sector, noting that 1,752 new milk cooperatives have been established and payments exceeding Rs 1,600 crore have already been disbursed to producers. Yadav reiterated his ambition to transform Madhya Pradesh into the “Milk Capital of India.”
In a key policy announcement, the Chief Minister said farmers will now receive compensation of up to four times the value of their land in case of acquisition, aimed at safeguarding their rights and ensuring fair returns.
The state government is also stepping up support for pulse and oilseed cultivation. Yadav announced procurement of urad (black gram) at MSP along with a bonus of Rs 600 per quintal, adding that farmers are already benefiting from improved mustard prices under the Bhavantar scheme.Yadav credited the state’s rapid development to the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that farmers remain the backbone of this progress.He assured that the government will continue to stand firmly with the “Annadatas,” strengthening trust and delivering sustained support to the agricultural community.
