The BRICS Agriculture Conference has commenced in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. Delegates from Brazil, Indonesia, China, Iran, South Africa, the UAE and other member countries are participating in the Summit. Agriculture Ministers, senior officials and experts from 21 countries are taking part in the Summit. Multiple sessions are scheduled to be held. Key topics include food security, farm innovation, climate-friendly farming, agricultural trade and empowering small farmers. On the 12th of this month, a special dialogue among agriculture ministers will be held. It will focus on food security through small farmers, women and youth. On 13th June, the ministerial meeting of BRICS nations will take place.
“A joint declaration will be issued after the BRICS Agriculture Ministers reach a consensus,” officials said. The meeting, coincides with the State government's declaration of 2026 as the 'Year of Farmer Welfare'.
As part of this conference, held under India's BRICS chairmanship, the Agriculture Working Group will hold deliberations till June 11, 2026 with officials from member countries. BRICS is an intergovernmental organisation comprising 11 major emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Indonesia. Foreign delegates will also get a taste of Indore’s rich culture and heritage. They will visit historic sites like Rajwada, Sarafa and Mandu.
