Cyclone Gulab intensifies in Bay of Bengal,alert issued in AP, Odisha

Indian Meteorological Department has said that cyclone Gulab has intensified and is likely to cross Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast by Sunday evening. An Orange alert has been issued for north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts. NDRF Director General SN Pradhan informed that 13 teams have been deployed in Odisha and five in Andhra Pradesh to meet any eventuality. Cabinet Secretary assured the state governments that all Central agencies are ready and will be available for assistance with the aim to keep the loss of lives to near zero and minimize damage to property and infrastructure.Train services on the east coast have been cancelled, diverted or rescheduled as a precautionary measure.

Cyclone 'Gulab' will be the second cyclonic storm to hit Odisha after 'Yaas', which made landfall barely four months ago. The intensity of cyclone 'Gulab' is likely to be similar to 'Titli', the storm that lashed the state in 2018.
