The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved Phase 2(A) of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, covering the Koteshwar Road to Airport corridor. The project includes a metro corridor of over six kilometres with five stations. Mr. Vaishnaw said that upon completion, the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro network will expand to around 78 kilometres, providing seamless connectivity to the airport and significantly improving public transport. Briefing the media in New Delhi after the Cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has also approved two major Central Government infrastructure projects in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. These include the construction of Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation and General Pool Residential Accommodation. The projects are expected to generate substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities for skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers.
The project, estimated to cost Rs1,299.08 crore, aims to address the growing requirement for office space for various Central Government departments and agencies by bringing them together within a single integrated campus. The move is expected to improve inter-departmental coordination and enhance the delivery of services in the state, he said.
