The meeting between farmers' representatives and the central government in Vigyan Bhawan on Thursday in Delhi has ended. The seven hours meeting remain inconclusive. The next meeting will be held on December 5. leaders of 40 farm organisations met with three ministers from the central government - Narendra Singh Tomar along with railways, food and consumer affairs minister Piyush Goyal and minister of state for commerce Som Prakash.
Earlier on Thursday morning, Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh had met with Union home minister Amit Shah. He has urged both the parties to find a solution sooner, as the protests are adversely affecting the economy of Punjab. Former chief minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal had returned his 'padma vibhushan' award.The seven-hour meeting between the farmers and the Centre was conducted in a "cordial atmosphere", Union agriculture minister Narendra Tomar said, adding that the government has "no ego".
Tomar said that the Centre will think about demands for MSP. While requesting the farmers to end the ongoing agitation, Tomar said that another meeting will be held in this regard at 2 pm on December 5."In the new Act, it has been provided that farmers can take their grievances to SDM court. Farmers' unions feel that SDM court is a lower court and they should be allowed to go the court. The government will consider this demand," Narendra Singh Tomar said.He added, "They also expressed their concerns over an Ordinance on stubble burning and the Act on electricity. The govt is open to consider and discuss these issues as well."
