West Bengal Government will build up a memorial of Bhasha Shahid Barkat at his residence at Babla village in Salar, Murshidabad. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made this announcement at the function organized by the state government on the occasion of International Mother Language Day in Kolkata on Monday. The main function of the day by the state government was held atDeshapriya Park in South Kolkata. A cultural function was organized on the occasion. Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata organised a special function to observe the day. It was followed by a cultural programme. Other organizations organized functions as well. The day was observed in various districts.
-One of the most reputed central Universities in the North East region is Mizoram University. With the passage of the last 20 years, Mizoram University, MZU has made considerable progress in terms of infrastructure and academics. MZU is accredited ‘A’ grade by NAAC. The University is ranked within the top 100 Universities in the country. The University has 33 academic departments offering UG, PG, M.Phil, and Ph.D. programs. There are 8 Schools of Study run by the University. In the last few years, the MZU has taken many initiatives for excellence in academics. Recently, new feathers have been added to the cap of Mizoram University. MZU is gradually working on the expansion of educational infrastructure. Recently, the Ministry of human resource development has sanctioned 6 projects for this University. As per information,there will be 4 projects inside the MZU Campus and 2 projects in the Pachhunga University College. Within the MZU Campus, 1 Boys Hostel with a capacity of 100 seats, 2 Girls Hostels with a capacity of 100 seats each, and 1 Academic Building will be constructed. While in Pachhunga University College, 1 Academic Building and 1 Boys Hostel with a capacity of 50 seats will be constructed.
-In Assam, a total of 3 candidates are in the fray for the by-polls at Majuli constituency. Monday was the last day of the withdrawal of nominations and no candidate has withdrawn their candidatures. The BJP has fielded Bhuban Gam while the opposition parties have given tickets to Asom Jatiya Parishad's Chitra Ranjan Basumatary. Polling will be held on March 7. Bypolls at Majuli have been necessitated following the resignation of Sarbanand Sonowal from this seat after being elected to Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, campaigning is on for the 80 municipal boards polls. Polling will be held on 6th of March. Senior BJP leader and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that BJP and Asom Gana Parishad have won 60 seats uncontested including the municipality board of North Guwahati and Sootea.
-In Uttar Pradesh, campaigning for the fourth phase of elections ended monday evening. 59 seats of 9 districts of state will go for poll on 23th February in fourth phase of elections. A maximum number of 16 seats are reserved In this phase of elections. The state is going for polls in 7 phases from 10 February to 7th March. These districts are spread From Tarai region to Owadh and till Bundelkhand. The 9 districts which will go for poll on 23th February are Pilibhit Lakhimpur Sitapur Hardoi Unnao Lucknow Raebareli Banda and Fatehpur. A total of 624 candidates are in fray for this phase of elections. An interesting fight is on nine assembly seats of state capital Lucknow. BJP won eight of the nine seats in Lucknow while the SP got only one. Voters will decide the political fate of BJP ministers Ashutosh Tandon Brijesh Pathak, the police officer turned politician Rajeshwar Singh who is fighting on BJP ticket, Jaya Devi wife of Union Minister Kaushal Kishore, former ministers in Samajwadi Party government Abhishek Mishra, Ravidas Malhotra, and former Samajwadi Party MP Susheela Saroj in Lucknow on 23rd February.
-Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal have termed the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, signed last week as a landmark pact, that will open up new markets for Indian goods and services. Addressing a press conference in Mumbai on Monday . Goyal said that India -UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) is a balanced, fair, comprehensive & equitable partnership agreement, which will give enhanced market access for India in both goods and services. He also said that it will create jobs for the Indian youth, open new markets for our startups, make our businesses more competitive & boost our economy. Goyal asserted that the CEPA will be extremely beneficial for MSMEs, startups, farmers, traders, and all sections of businesses. Speaking about the sectoral gains, he said that the labor-intensive industries like Textiles, Gems and Jewellery, Leather goods and footwear, and food processing industry would be prominent among those to benefit the most. The Minister informed that sector-wise consultations have shown that the pact will create a minimum of 10 lakh jobs for Indian citizens.
