Kargil Vijay Diwas is being observed across the country to honour the bravery of Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War of 1999. The day marks the 26th anniversary of India’s victory over Pakistan in the conflict and the successful conclusion of Operation Vijay. During this operation, the Indian Armed Forces reclaimed territories in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir that had been infiltrated by Pakistani soldiers and militants. The day marks the success of Operation Vijay against Pakistan in the Kargil War. In this operation, the Indian Armed Forces re-established control over those areas in Kargil, Jammu and Kashmir, where Pakistani soldiers and terrorists had infiltrated. Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya paid heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War at a solemn ceremony held in Drass town of Ladakh on Saturday. Joining him at the commemorative event were Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. The leaders participated in a wreath-laying ceremony to honour the fallen heroes, as part of the annual Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations.

Mandaviya led a ‘padyatra’ featuring over 1,000 youth volunteers, veterans, armed forces personnel, families of fallen soldiers, and civil society members in Drass earlier in the day. The 1.5 km long ‘padyatra’ commenced at 7 am from the grounds of Himabass Public High School, Drass and concluded at the grounds of Government Higher Secondary School, Bhimbet.

The intrusion was met with a swift and determined response from the Indian Army, culminating in a decisive victory that reaffirmed India’s territorial integrity.Kargil Vijay Diwas continues to stand as a symbol of national pride, honoring the indomitable spirit of the Indian armed forces.
