Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a virtual meeting with chief ministers of states to review preparedness and assess the impact of the ongoing West Asia conflict on India’s economy and supply chains. The interaction, held via video conference in a format similar to meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic, began at 6:30 pm and was attended by key Union ministers, including Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh.
Chief ministers from several states participated in the meeting, including N. Chandrababu Naidu, Vishnu Deo Sai, Revanth Reddy, Yogi Adityanath, Omar Abdullah, Bhagwant Mann, Mohan Yadav, Hemant Soren, Pushkar Singh Dhami, Bhupendra Patel and Devendra Fadnavis. Chief ministers of poll-bound states—Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry—did not attend due to the Model Code of Conduct. The meeting assumes significance as it marks the first such interaction between the Prime Minister and state leaders since the conflict in West Asia escalated on February 28 following strikes involving the United States and Israel on Iran, and subsequent retaliatory actions.
