The Ministry of Defence signed contracts for the procurement of TRAWL Assemly fbor T-72 and T-90 Tanks at a cost of around Rs 975 crore. The contracts were signed with Bharat Earth Movers Limited and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics (India) Pvt. Limited in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on Tuesday. The Ministry of Defence, in a statement, said that the TRAWL Assembly for T-72 and T-90 Tanks is critical equipment which will enhance the minefield breaching capability of the Indian Army. It will generate additional capability of creating Vehicle Safe Lanes through minefields with anti-tank mines.
The Ministry added that the procurement marks a pivotal step towards modernising India’s defence infrastructure and empowering indigenous industries, which will be a proud flag-bearer of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. This project has immense potential of direct and indirect employment generation by encouraging the MSME sector through component manufacturing.
It is a specialised mine-clearing system, mounted to the front of the tank and used as a layered approach to detect and neutralise landmines by detonating or pushing them aside, ensuring safe passage for advancing units. It can withstand direct blasts underneath without compromising the tank or its crew. The procurement falls under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously designed, developed and manufactured) category, reinforcing the Aatmanirbhar Bharat push in defence capital acquisitions.
