Two workers were killed and three others sustained serious injuries after a chemical storage tank exploded at a private factory near Karekate village in Mandya taluk, Karnataka.The incident occurred at Kirti Chemicals Industries, where a storage tank containing chemicals reportedly exploded while workers were attempting to open its cap using a gas cutter. The sudden blast caused severe burn and impact injuries.
According to district police, two persons died on the spot. Three injured workers were rushed to Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) for treatment. Their condition is stated to be critical.Following the explosion, several factory workers allegedly fled the scene. Police personnel from Basaralu Police Station reached the spot, secured the area, and conducted a preliminary inspection.Mandya SP Dr Shobha Rani confirmed that a case has been registered at Basaralu Police Station.
