Short film ‘Bittu’ is shortlisted in top 10 films under Live Action Short film category for 93rd Oscar Awards. Indian filmmakers Shreya and Karishma dev Dube are producer and directors of this film. Karishma expressed happiness for nominations and said, she is hoping for best in academy awards. Bittu doesn't feature any known names. The director opted for street casting. She went to local communities and government schools in the rural area and organised theatre workshops and selected kids for her film. After rehearsals, which went on for two months, Bittu was shot in a span of just six days.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced shortlists in nine categories for the 93rd Academy Awards. For the short film category, it has received 174 films out of which academy has shortlisted 10 films. ‘Bittu’ is one of the shortlisted film. Bittu is a story of two school-going girls. The film have already won a silver medal in the student academy award 2020 for this film. Though inspired by the poisoning accident, the film focuses on a child's psychology rather than the incident. Karishma explained the same. She said, “Inspired by an infamous school poisoning that took place in India in 2013.
Now for main Oscar awards, Academy will vote to finalise winner, so we will continue a publicity campaign and increase the visibility of film.Bittu competed with 174 films to make it to the list of 10 finalists in the Live Action Short Film category. The film is presented by Ekta Kapoor, Guneet Monga, and writer-director Tahira Kashyap Khurrana under the banner Indian Women Rising (IWR), a Cinema collective aimed at discovering and encouraging Indian female talent. The three producers launched IWR in January this year. Karishma Dev Dube has previously bagged the prestigious Director’s Guild of America (DGA) Student Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in the Asian American Category for Bittu.
