Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the country is making great strides in the path of self-reliance in every field. He said, India is achieving new heights in sectors like health, communication, industry, transport and defence with the cooperation of public and private sector. Addressing a webinar on Sainik Schools from New Delhi on Saturday,. Singh said, the government has taken several steps to improve the quality of education and for the overall development of the nation. He said, the announcement of 100 new Sainik Schools is a step in this direction. Highlighting the importance of Sainik Schools, the Defence Minister said, these schools played a vital role in the overall development of children. He added, these schools have contributed to the recruitment of more than seven thousand officers in the armed forces.
He said, the government has cleared the way for girls' admission in Sainik Schools and with the announcement of 100 new Sainik Schools, the participation of daughters will increase.Singh added that the Government is focussing on providing quality education to the youth of the country as it lays a solid foundation for the all-round development of society. “Quality education is the fourth of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations, he said. Singh suggested Department of Defence and Sainik School Society to devise a mechanism for ranking all Sainik schools on the basis of their performance and audit. This, he said, will lead to a healthy competition among the schools, besides providing encouragement to try different innovations. He said, along with the curriculum, children should be exposed to patriotism and loyalty towards the Nation as it will help in building their character and benefit the country.
