In Bhopal, CBI on Thursday arrested retired judge Giribala Singh in the death case of daughter-in-law Twisha Sharma. Twisha was found dead on May 12, and an FIR was lodged on May 15. On the same day, a Bhopal trial court granted interim bail to her mother-in-law while retired judge's son Samarth Singh continues to remain in CBI custody. Madhya Pradesh high court late on Wednesday had quashed the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala in connection with the death case.
CBI officials reached Giribala Singh's residence at around 10:00 am and questioned her for several hours before formally arresting her in the evening. The CBI also carried out a detailed forensic examination at the residence using a high-intensity 3D camera, recording of the entire premises and scanned nearby locations to determine whether the alleged incident spot was visible from neighbouring terraces or balconies.

As per Twisha's counsel, her in-laws were neither permitting her to live happily nor allowing her to grieve, and that she was "badly stuck." After securing anticipatory bail, Singh addressed a press conference on May 18 and attempted to malign the image of the deceased through various allegations, counsel told the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Giribala Singh is facing grave charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including: Section 80(2), for dowry death; Section 85, Cruelty to a woman by her husband or relatives; Section 3(5), acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention. Additionally, she has been charged under Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
