According to agnecy reports, the committee's first agenda item was the consideration and adoption of the 381st Report on Action Taken by the Government on the recommendations contained in the 364th Report relating to the Demands for Grants (2025-26) of the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education. The meeting also focused on broader examination reforms, with discussions centering on the advantages and challenges of traditional pen-and-paper examinations compared to computer-based testing, amid increasing concerns over transparency, accessibility and security in national-level entrance tests. The committee is scheduled to meet again on June 2 to review the use of On-Screen Marking (OSM) in CBSE Class 12 examinations and examine difficulties faced by students in the evaluation process. Members will also deliberate on the implementation of the three-language formula for students in Classes 9 and 10.
The discussions come against the backdrop of continuing concerns surrounding the conduct of NEET-UG and CBSE examinations.Last week, members of a parliamentary panel reportedly emphasized the need to preserve the sanctity of the NEET-UG examination and plug loopholes in the system after receiving an update on the Central Bureau of Investigation's probe into the alleged paper leak case. The 2026 NEET-UG examination was cancelled and subsequently rescheduled for June 21 following allegations of a paper leak. As part of its investigation, the CBI has arrested 13 individuals in connection with the case.On Friday, CBI Director Praveen Sood and NTA Director General Abhishek Singh appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Government Assurances and briefed members on the progress of the investigation into the NEET-UG paper leak.
Meanwhile, concerns have also emerged over the On-Screen Marking system used in CBSE evaluations. Responding to reports highlighting vulnerabilities in the OnMark portal maintained by its service provider, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said it is closely monitoring the issue and has engaged cybersecurity experts to strengthen the platform's security architecture.
