Labour and Employment Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya launched a nationwide Annual Health Check-Up initiative for Workers aged 40 years and above under the new Labour Codes on Thursday. The initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening occupational health systems, ensuring comprehensive healthcare access for India’s workforce.
Addressing the gathering at the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation Medical College and Hospital in New Delhi, Dr Mandaviya said respect for the country’s workforce and youth power has increased significantly over the last 12 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the government has been making continuous efforts to create employment opportunities, and as a result, the unemployment rate has declined to around 3.2 per cent. Dr Mandaviya said the government has focused not only on providing jobs but also on ensuring social security for the middle class and economically weaker sections. He added that around 30 crore people were covered under social security schemes a decade ago, and the number has now risen to 94 crore.
The Minister further said, the coverage under ESIC has more than doubled over the decade from 7 crore people to 15 crore. He said the scheme provides comprehensive medical coverage to workers during serious health emergencies, along with maternity benefits, compensation for workplace accidents, and financial assistance during unemployment.
