The Delhi Police have arrested 44 people, including the man who attacked a police officer on Friday with a sword during clashes at Singhu border between Delhi and Haryana, the epicentre of the two-month long farmers' protest against three central laws. The man with the sword was believed to be one of the protesting farmers who had allegedly attacked a group that barged into the protest site in Singhu, despite heavy police presence, vandalised the protesters' tents and broke their washing machines.
Alipur SHO Pradeep Kumar claimed that he was attacked with a sword by a protester and suffered injuries on his forearm.A Delhi Police press note stated, "Criminal case has been registered in PS Alipur, Delhi and investigation has been taken up. Accused Ranjeet Singh who attacked SHO Alipur with sword has been arrested from the spot and other 43 persons have also been arrested". "They went to meet the leaders of the KMSC faction around the Alipur Red Light to press for the local demand that the protestors to vacate the said space and open the border and said that they have been providing all kind of help to protesters for last 2 months but now their livelihood is getting affected, hence they are requested to open the border and vacate the road. They came yesterday also with the same request," police further said in the press note. Police further added that this was resisted by some farmers and "pushing-pulling of the police barricades kept to secure the langar tents ensued".
"While the Insp. Pradeep, SHO PS Alipur was pacifying the farmers to stop stone pelting from their side, he was suddenly attacked by a sword wielding person, who was subsequently overpowered and apprehended from the spot. The officer sustained grievous sword injuries and other 5 police persons were also got injured," police added.
