Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday inaugurated the Land Port Management System (LPMS) 'Vinimay', a certified digital platform aimed at modernising and streamlining operations across India's land ports while strengthening border security, trade facilitation, and connectivity. The Land Port Management System enables seamless coordination among multiple stakeholders, including customs, immigration authorities, border guarding forces, logistics operators, and other agencies involved in land port operations.
Speaking at the launch event, Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision has transformed land ports into a critical component of India's border infrastructure, serving both as the country's first line of security and as gateways for secure and efficient trade."The idea of the Land Ports Authority was primarily born out of security concerns, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision has not only made it the first shield of security but has also worked to make trade smoother and more secure. A separate dimension has been added to this vision regarding how land ports can serve as a bridge of connection between the people of the two countries," Shah said.

Highlighting the broader impact of land ports on border management, the Home Minister noted that these facilities have contributed significantly to curbing illegal trade and addressing migration-related challenges in border regions."With the rapid development of land ports, not only has trade increased and security been strengthened, but efforts have also been made to convert illegal trade into legitimate trade. In the vision of all-round development of border areas, where migration was the biggest problem, land ports have made a very important contribution in addressing this as well," he added.
According to the government, the launch of LPMS marks a major milestone in India's transition towards a modern, technology-driven smart border management ecosystem and aligns with the country's long-term vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.LPMS is designed as an integrated digital platform that connects operations across land ports through secure, real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information. The system brings land ports on par with the advanced digital infrastructure already operational at airports and seaports. The platform introduces end-to-end digital workflows for cargo and passenger processing, including slot booking, online payments, cargo tracking, and single-window clearances. It is also integrated with key national digital platforms such as ICEGATE, ULIP, and the motor vehicle ecosystem, enabling interoperable, transparent, and efficient border management.
According to officials said the system will facilitate seamless coordination between government agencies and private stakeholders, helping reduce processing delays, improve operational efficiency, and enhance transparency in cross-border trade. The Land Ports Authority of India, a statutory body under the Ministry of Home Affairs' Department of Border Management, is responsible for developing and managing land ports to facilitate trade, connectivity, and regional cooperation.
According to agency reports, currently, LPAI operates 15 land ports along India's international borders, including Attari and Dera Baba Nanak on the India-Pakistan border; Raxaul, Jogbani and Rupaidiha on the India-Nepal border; Darranga on the India-Bhutan border; Petrapole, Dawki, Sutarkandi, Golakganj, Mankachar, Agartala, Srimantapur and Sabroom on the India-Bangladesh border; and Moreh on the India-Myanmar border.Officials stated the deployment of LPMS 'Vinimay' is expected to strengthen trade facilitation, improve border connectivity, enhance security mechanisms, and support economic development in border regions through a unified digital framework.
