Many Muslim leaders have criticised those who are opposing the Waqf Amendment Bill passed by the Parliament. They alleged that these people have forcefully occupied government properties, they have earned massive wealth from it. Bihar Governor Mohammad Arif Khan said, Waqf, in simple terms, refers to charitable work—helping the poor, the helpless, those with no one to look after them, using properties dedicated for their welfare, but they have not done anything in this field.

BJP leader Mohsin Raza said, once this law comes into effect, there is no doubt that strict action will be taken against those who have forcefully occupied the government land, and they will have to answer for their actions.Raza alleged, "we are receiving shocking complaints that even in graveyards, people are being asked to pay money, up to five lakh rupees, just to get a grave for their loved ones."
