Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday announced that the Centre would start granting citizenship to refugees under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) once the Covid-19 vaccination drive is over.While addressing a rally in Cooch Behar, Accusing the opposition parties of misleading the minorities about the Citizenship (amendment) Act, he said its implementation will not impact the citizenship status of Indian minorities. "Mamata didi said we made a false promise. She started opposing the CAA and saying she will never allow it. The BJP always fulfils the promises it makes. We have brought this law and refugees will get citizenship", he said.
Shah also took a jibe at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said that her time is over. He further asserted that the Ayushman scheme will also be implemented and the farmers will also be provided with annual cash assistance of Rs. 6000 in addition to the arrears. After coming to power in West Bengal, the centre would also introduce the “Sharnarthi Kalyan Yojana”. Amit Shah also spoke on why the need for change: ‘poriborton’. “BJP's Poriborton Yatra is not to change the Chief Minister, MLAs, or ministers. It is to end infiltration,” said the Home Minister.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised the Union minister, saying the things he said, "The body language and the mentality and the threatening behaviour… doesn't suit his position".
