Amid the heated accusations and politicising the issue of non availability of coal in the state as well as country, there is a big relief for the state as Bhopal , after Varanasi , has been chosen to become 2nd city to have a plant to convert the waste into torrefied charcol ( coal ) to be used in power generation. A contract of this effect was signed between. VS Chowdhary Kolsani on behalf of Bhopal Municipal Corporation and NTPC in presence of CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan and other senior officers of NTPC.
As per the contract, the administration will provide 15 Acres of land to NTPC in Adampur Chhawani, the dumping hub of city waste , to install the plant which will produce Coal from 400 tons of dry waste daily. NTPC will invest 80 Crores on this project.
Originally the same was planned for Indore city but non availability of land the same was shifted to Bhopal.Besides disposal of dry waste , another contract was also signed with RNG Pvt. Ltd. to produce BIO- CNG from 200 tons of wet waste. The company will also pay Rs. 83 Lacs as Royalty every year to corporation for 20 years alongwith Bio-CNG at the rate of less 5 rupees from market rate. It will also save around 2 Crores and 43 lacs for municipal corporation in disposing off the wet waste.
