Around 78 per cent voter turnout has been recorded in West Bengal while Assam recorded 79 per cent in the third phase of Assembly elections for which voting took placeon Tuesday. Till 7.00 PM, Kerala recorded about 73.58 per cent, Tamil Nadu above 63 per cent and Puducherry registered around 78 per cent voting in the single phase Assembly polls. For Assam,Tuesday was the last phase of Assembly elections while five phases of polling are still remaining for West Bengal. The Election Commission has said, the polling in these 4 States and UT passed off peacefully.
As a major push for conducting free and fair elections, live monitoring and webcasting of more than 50 per cent of polling stations including critical and vulnerable polling booths were put in place to ensure a safe and secure atmosphere in polling areas.All the polling stations followed COVID-19 safety protocols and for the safety of the voters and the election officials it was ensured that the polling stations were sanitized one day prior to poll. Facilities of thermal scanning, hand sanitisers, face masks were also made available at the polling stations and proper arrangements for social distancing were put in place.
