Apple has appointed researcher Amar Subramanya as its new Vice-President of Artificial Intelligence, marking a major leadership shift as the tech giant accelerates its AI ambitions. Subramanya replaces John Giannandrea, Apple’s Senior Vice-President for Machine Learning and AI Strategy.A graduate of Bangalore University, Subramanya completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering in 2001. According to his LinkedIn profile, he began his career at IBM as a software engineer before holding key roles at Microsoft. He later joined Google as a Staff Research Scientist in June 2009, and also briefly led AI initiatives at Microsoft.
Apple stated Subramanya will oversee crucial areas including Apple foundation models, machine learning research, and AI safety and evaluation. His appointment comes as global technology companies intensify their focus on AI-driven products and services.Subramanya will report to Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice-President of Software Engineering.
Welcoming him to the leadership team, Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “AI has long been central to Apple’s strategy, and we are pleased to welcome Amar to Craig’s leadership team and to bring his extraordinary expertise to Apple. These leadership moves will help us continue to push the boundaries of what is possible through AI.”
