Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held discussions with a US delegation led by United States Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer in New Delhi on Tuesday, as negotiations for the India-US trade agreement moved closer to the final stage.The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation, with both sides exchanging views on expanding commercial ties, creating new growth opportunities and deepening economic engagement between the two countries.
In a social media post, Sitharaman said that during the meeting, both sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation, with a focus on new opportunities for growth and deeper commercial engagement.

The US Embassy in India described the India-US trade partnership as a “win-win” for both nations, highlighting that stronger economic ties would support American manufacturing jobs while contributing to India's growth as the world’s largest democracy.“From energy security to tech talent exchanges, we're building the future together,” the embassy said in a post on X.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also highlighted the ongoing discussions between the two countries. In a post on X, Gor said he met Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal along with USTR Greer in New Delhi for talks on finalising the trade deal.He earlier welcomed Greer’s visit to India, stating that the completion of the bilateral trade agreement would help unlock fresh economic opportunities and further strengthen the US-India economic partnership.The high-level discussions are centred around the proposed Interim Agreement, which forms part of the broader Bilateral Trade Agreement negotiations between India and the US.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had recently said that negotiations on the interim trade pact had made significant progress. He noted that Greer’s visit would help advance discussions and move the agreement closer to conclusion.Earlier, Piyush Goyal welcomed Greer, Ambassador Sergio Gor and the US delegation to the Department of Commerce for “productive discussions” on the bilateral trade agreement.India continues to engage with the US on proposed tariff measures under Section 301 proceedings while simultaneously working towards finalising a comprehensive trade framework.

According to sources,following his meetings in New Delhi, Greer is scheduled to travel to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where he will discuss fair, balanced and reciprocal trade issues with counterparts, according to the USTR.
