'I manifested my dreams even before the concept of manifestation was widely spoken about': Simple Kaul

Kkusum, Teen Bahuraaniyan, Saas Bina Sasural, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and Ziddi Dil Maane Na fame actress Simple Kaul always knew she wanted to be an actor, so much so that she ate, breathed, and lived her dream, which she has been manifesting since her childhood days. She said that she manifested her dream way before the word became an Instagram sensation.“I have had the spirit of an artist since my childhood, so right from the start, I knew I wanted to become an actor. Even when I didn’t know much about acting, I used to perform in front of the mirror and act as if I were a celebrity. I manifested my dreams even before the concept of manifestation was widely spoken about. The only thing I knew was to keep focusing and living my dream: to be famous, to act in front of the camera, and to play different characters. I ate, slept, breathed, and walked with this dream every moment of my life,” she said.
“If I couldn’t act or perform, there was no reason to live. My passion only grew stronger over time. I used to do theater and just wanted to show my talent to the world. I came with a fire inside me,” she added.Simple became a household name with the popular sitcom Shararat, and she said that it was her best show. “I enjoyed doing it a lot. It created a household name for me. I was learning and evolving during my initial days in Mumbai,” she said.
Her last stint on TV was Ziddi Dil Maane Na, and she mentioned that it reminded her of Shararat. She added, “These shows were for the younger generation, and I made some of my best friends there. Ziddi Dil Maane Na was the last show I did, and I had so much fun with it. It was an army-based show. From Shararat, where I was hilariously funny, to this show, where I portrayed a different, more relatable version of myself, I haven’t done such a normal, interesting character before. My whole journey has been unforgettable.”
Simple also stressed that from her first show, Kkusum, to her last show, Ziddi Dil Maane Na, her acting style has evolved. She added, “The acting style from then to now has definitely evolved. Now, there is more realism and exposure to real acting. It's beautiful to see that all the learning that people had in theaters is being utilized in web series. Time has changed, and there is so much exposure available. Today, an actor can be considered a hero even with mediocre looks or no looks at all, purely based on talent. It's such an exciting time for genuine talent to shine.'Any advice that you would give to your younger self? “I wouldn’t give any advice to my younger self. I followed my heart, did everything I wanted to do, and made decisions based on whether I enjoyed the character or not,” Simple concluded.

Now I am dusting my knees to fight back again, after losing everyone,” she says, adding, “I have had my share of struggles and films in my career so far, but it's just a journey and I wish to continue to grow.”
She says that she can never choose to give up. “Giving up is a mindset one encounters at one point or another. I did too but my dad and mom's learnings resonate in my mind and I brace myself again. Manjari Mishra: The journey towards LGBTQ+ acceptance in India is ongoing

While we have come a long way, we need to be more accepting to the members of the LGBTQ community, says actress Manjari Mishra. The actress, who has acted in the TV show Models, Gujarati film Fuleku and more recently Rocket Gang, adds that within our families too, we need to be more open.“The journey towards LGBTQ+ acceptance in India is ongoing, and while progress has been made, there's still work to be done, especially within families where acceptance can vary. It's crucial for society to foster understanding and empathy towards individuals with different sexual orientations, creating safe spaces for open dialogue and support,” she says.
She adds, “For those struggling with their sexual orientation and fearing social stigma, support networks, counselling services, and community organizations can provide invaluable resources and assistance. Encouraging an inclusive and non-judgmental environment can help individuals feel more comfortable coming out and seeking support.”Talking about when members of this community should confide their feelings to their loved ones, she says that it’s a personal choice. “Remaining in the closet can indeed feel like a safer option for some due to fear of rejection or discrimination. It's a deeply personal decision, and individuals should be supported in their own timing and process of coming out, if and when they choose to do so,” she says.
The actress adds that social media and films, shows are also doing their bit in raising awareness. “Social media has played a significant role in starting conversations and raising awareness about LGBTQ+ issues, providing platforms for sharing personal stories, advocacy, and education. Movies have the power to influence attitudes and perceptions, and some films have effectively raised awareness about LGBTQ+ issues in India. One such example is Aligarh, which sensitively portrays the struggles faced by a gay professor in a conservative society. I appreciated its nuanced approach and powerful performances, which humanized the LGBTQ+ experience,” she says.
She adds, “To create more awareness, continued efforts are needed in various sectors, including education, media representation, and policy advocacy. Schools can incorporate LGBTQ+-inclusive curriculum, media can feature diverse LGBTQ+ characters, and advocacy groups can work towards legal protections and social acceptance. Ultimately, it's about fostering empathy, understanding, and respect for all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.”
