Goa imposes restrictions ahead new year celebrations

The Goa government has announced a slew of restrictions to check the spread of the coronavirus infection in the state in view of upcoming new year celebrations. Those entering Goa must be fully vaccinated or should carry a RTPCR Covid negative certificate. Also, 15 days should have been elapsed since administration of second dose of vaccine. The RTPCR Covid negative test should have been conducted within 24 hours before entering the state.
Casinos, cinema halls, auditoriums, river cruises, water parks, and entertainment parks are to be operated at a maximum of 50 percent capacity. Places of public amusement including spas and restaurants have been directed to follow all Covid-related safety protocols including thermal screening and use of masks. The owner or manager of these premises or functions will be responsible for enforcement of Covid related safety norms.  Goa has seen a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases over the last couple of days with 170 infections being reported on Wednesday. The state has 657 active cases.
The state government has made owners, managers, licensees and organisers responsible for the enforcement of the guidelines, including making necessary arrangements for verification of vaccination certificates and test reports. Meanwhile, the order also mentioned that schools may reopen "subject to the separate SOPs to be issued on behalf of the Education Department". Interstate movement will be permitted only for people who are fully vaccinated or for those entering Goa for medical emergencies or for people carrying COVID-19 negative certificate issued 72 hours before arrival, it said.
