Bihar seeks over Rs. 3,500 crore from Centre for flood relief

Bihar Government has sought an assistance of over Rs. 3,763 crore from the Centre for flood relief measures in the state. According to Deputy Chief Minister Renu Devi the assement is based on preliminary assessment.She said, various aspects of flood devastation were discussed with Central team during discussion with higher officials including Chief Secretary in Patna. A six-member Central team led by Joint Secretary in Home Ministry R.K. Singh is on three-day tour to Bihar to assess the damages caused by the prevailing floods in the state. 
The team undertook aerial survey of flood-affected districts including Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur.The team also visited Kuseshwarsthan area of Darbhanga district.After visiting flood- affected areas the Central team held meeting with District Magistrate of Samastipur, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Madhubani in Darbhanga.The team also  undertook aerial survey of Bhagalpur and its adjoining areas to assess flood furry on Tuesday.After visiting flood-affected areas, the Central team will submit its report to the Union Government. 

Meanwhile, the flood situation continues to be grim in 24  districts including Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Katihar,  Bhagalpur, Khagaria, East Champaran and West Champaran districts.Over 30 lakh people spread over two thousand villages are reeling under impact of flood. The floods have so far claimed 53 lives in the state.In all, 29 teams of NDRF and SDRF have been pressed into relief and rescue operations. Over two lakh 20 thousand people have been shifted to safer places. Vehicular traffic has been disrupted at several places. 
Rail traffic on Darbhanga- Samastipur section remained suspended on the seventh consecutive day following inundation of railway track. 14 trains have been cancelled and 13 trains diverted on alternative routes. Several rivers including Ganga, Bagmati, Kosi and Gandak are maintaining rising trend and are flowing above danger mark.
