Amit Shah inaugurates Jedwa Lake during Gujarat visit

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday inaugurated the newly developed Jedwa Lake at Vadsar in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, as part of his two-day (28-29 May'26) visit to the state focused on development and security-related programmes. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior state government officials, local representatives, and residents. The lake redevelopment project is aimed at enhancing water conservation, improving local infrastructure, and creating public recreational space in the region.

During his Gujarat visit, Shah is scheduled to participate in more than a dozen public and administrative programmes across the state.According to information the Union Home Minister will also inspect the Border Outpost Harami Nala and review Pan, Tilt and Zoom (PTZ) camera feeds in the control room there as part of an assessment of border security preparedness. The visit comes amid the Centre’s continued focus on strengthening surveillance and security infrastructure in border areas.
Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Amit Shah in New Delhi to discuss issues concerning the sugar cooperative sector and onion farmers in the state.Following the meeting, Fadnavis said discussions were held regarding increasing the Minimum Support Price (MSP), expanding the ethanol quota, and restructuring loans for sugar mills.“A positive discussion took place. Amit Shah stated that a positive decision will be taken regarding raising the MSP, increasing the ethanol quota, and loan restructuring,” Fadnavis said.He added that the Centre had sought a proposal related to ethanol production, which, if approved, could help address financial challenges faced by sugar mill operators. On the issue of onion farmers, Fadnavis said the Maharashtra government had urged the Centre to raise onion procurement by NAFED from two lakh tonnes to 10 lakh tonnes. He further said the onion procurement price had already been increased to Rs 15.80 per kilogram, while discussions were continuing regarding a further hike to support farmers affected by volatile market prices.
