Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has alleged that the interest of Scheduled Castes,Schedule Tribes and Backward Classes has not been preserved in the New Education Policy. While talking to newsmen in Ranchi Soren emphatically mentioned that Employment is not even mentioned in the document. Chief Minister said that parallel to education is employment . Soren lamented that If the education does not pave the way for employment, then how is education relevant to weaker sections of our society.
The Chief Minister recalled that in the previous policy announced in 2010-11 , the BJP strongly opposed the privatization in education and his party. JMM also supported the stand but now the ruling BJP has taken a complete U-turn. The Chief Minister alleged that 70 percent of the population in the country is tribal, dalit and backward and they have been grossly neglected in the new education policy.
When asked about the interaction with Prime Minister , he made it clear that it is the responsibility of the state government to put the plan on the ground but this topic was not discussed properly during the interaction. Soren said that the 'new education policy' is promoting privatization and trade . There is talk of inviting private and foreign institutions in this policy. However, nothing concrete has been said about protecting the interests of tribal, Dalit, backward, farmers and working class children.
Earliar while addressing a virtual discussion on 'Role of National Education Policy -2020 in Transforming Higher education The Chief Minister congratulated the Central Government for discussing education policy and said: India is a country full of diversities. The needs of different states are different here. As education is a subject of concurrent list, it should have been discussed with all the states with an open mind before announcing the policy.
The Chief Minister said that after the decision of privatization of many public institutions, the unilateral decision of the Central Government on Commercial Mining and GST and now the lack of consultation with the states in the regulation of new education policy. He said that it was shocking that the foundation of cooperative federalism is being shaken .
