In Maharashtra , a political storm has surfaced when Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and social justice minister Dhananjay Munde has found himself in the centre of a controversy after a woman accused him of rape on the promise of marriage and other favours. The woman alleged that the police are not accepting her written complaint against the minister and her life is under threat. Munde, however, claimed that the woman is trying to defame and blackmail him.The woman accusing the minister is the sister of a woman with whom Munde had a prior relationship.
The BJP has upped the ante against Maharashtra Social Justice Minister Dhananjay Munde, seeking his resignation from the state cabinet. State BJP President Chandrakant Patil said. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has filed a complaint against Munde with the Election Commission of India for non-disclosure and concealment of facts about wives, children and properties. "Munde has himself admitted of having two wives and owning properties in their names. However, this information is not seen in his election affidavit. I have requested the Election Commission to order an inquiry and take action," Somaiya said. Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis has demanded that "truth should come out" in this case.
Munde issued a statement where he acknowledged that he was in a relationship with the complainant’s sister and has two children with her. He added that he had financially supported them and given the children his name. He further said that his family was aware of the relationship and had accepted it. The minister, however, had denied the charges of rape and claimed that the accusation were part of a conspiracy to blackmail him. Munde said the complainant’s messages can prove his claim. Munde joined the NCP in 2012 after breaking ranks with the BJP and his uncle, Gopinath Munde.
