"World Radio Day" was globally celebrated on Saturday ( Feb 13). As the name suggests, the day is meant to promote and encourage people towards the usage of radio. Another important part of the day is to make more and more people aware of the history of radio.The day was proclaimed by the member states of UNESCO in 2011 and subsequently adopted by the United Nations General Assembly as an International Day. 2021 also marks the tenth anniversary of World Radio Day. According to UNESCO, the radio still continues to be the most widely consumed medium of communication across the globe. UNESCO also mentions that the radio stations should serve diverse communities, through a range of programmes, viewpoints, and content.The theme of World Radio Day 2021, "New World, New Radio", will highlight the services rendered by the radio medium throughout the crisis.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Radio is a fantastic medium that can create a positive impact. In a tweet message on World Radio Day, the Prime Minister has greeted all the listeners of radio and congratulated all those who keep the radio buzzing with innovative content and music.He has praised the Radio as a fantastic medium, that deepens social connect. Mr Modi said that he had personally experienced the positive impact of radio thanks to the MannKiBaat programme aired on All India Radio, every month.Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has greeted people on the occasion of World Radio Day. Mr Naidu said, Radio is a popular medium of communication and a major source of information and entertainment.On World Radio Day, the Vice President called upon all the stakeholders to utilize the medium to impart knowledge in areas such as education, agriculture, culture, science and technology, and empower the listeners.
Eminent sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik clelbrates the in his own style. Jagdish Chandra Bose, the man who invented a radio wave receiver that Marconi made the first radio with. Bose is known as the father of wireless telecommunication. He had invented the Mercury Coherer, a radio wave receiver that was used by Guglielmo Marconi to build an operational two-way radio.
