The victory in the 1971 Bangladesh war against Pakistan was the triumph of justice over injustice, said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Addressing the Indian war veterans of 1971 and liberation war fighters of Bangladesh in Delhi on Tuesday, as part of the Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations, the Defence Minister said that the victory in 1971 was one of the most important events in world history. It showed India’s commitment to humanity.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh interacted with 30 liberation war fighters of Bangladesh called Muktijoddha, families of four Param Vir Chakra and other awardees as well as war veterans. The Muktijodhas have been invited to participate in Swarnim Vijay Varsh events to honour the Bravehearts who took part in the 1971 war. In his address, Rajnath Singh paid rich tributes to the brave soldiers, sailors and air warriors who ensured the victory in 1971 war by making supreme sacrifice while displaying devotion to duty.
Remembering the heroes of the Indian army namely Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Lt. Gen. Jagjit Singh Aurora, Lt. Gen. JFR Jacob and Air Marshal Idris Lastif and others, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that these heroes included Hindus, Muslims, Parsis, Sikhs and one Jew. This is proof of India’s firm belief in giving equal respect to all religions.The Defence Minister also paid glowing tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman terming him as the guiding light for the people of his country. He appreciated the fact that Bangladesh has been making giant strides on the path of development since its liberation.
Earlier,at a DRDO function,Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said, the Narendra Modi government has taken bold policy decisions for reforms in Defence production and armed forces integration process will continue at all levels to meet any circumstances. Singh said, for the past few years Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO is developing technology that is not just futuristic but also first of its kind.

Singh said, since its inception DRDO has played a major role in capability building of security forces. The minister said the government is all set to create such a strong defence industry base in the country which will not only meet the domestic defence requirement but also export to other countries in the times to come. Singh handed over to the armed forces locally developed military hardware including a smart air-launched weapon, anti-drone systems and an advanced radar countermeasure system. Singh also handed over transfer of technology (ToT) agreements covering six systems, including the coastal surveillance radar, to seven public and private sector companies to bolster their defence manufacturing capabilities at an event organised in New Delhi as part of the ongoing country-wide celebrations to mark the 75th year of India’s celebration
