Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has arrived in New Delhi on Friday on a three-day visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is accompanied by his wife Dr. Arzu Deuba and a high-level delegation. In a tweet, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, this is his first bilateral visit abroad after assuming office in July last year. Deuba will call on Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and hold talks with Prime Minister Modi on Saturay External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will also call on the Prime Minister of Nepal. Besides official engagements in New Delhi, Deuba will visit Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.India and Nepal enjoy age-old and special ties of friendship and cooperation. In recent years, the partnership has witnessed significant growth in all areas of cooperation.
-Uttar Pradesh government will recruit 10,000 police personnel within the next hundred days. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday directed officials to make preparation for the recruitment. Calling for the use of technology in crime prevention Chief Minister suggested for use of social media to tell the success stories against crime control. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that During a review meeting of the senior police officials of the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed them to take fast and effective action against Mafia and criminal elements. He said that according to the zero-tolerance policy of the government against the criminal and corrupt persons, police should take necessary action against such elements and must take strict action against the top 10 criminals of district and police station level. During the meeting Chief Minister insisted for better coordination between intelligence, STF and SOG. He also instructed to complete the necessary work related to the formation of 3 women PAC battalions.
-Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Friday called upon students not to give up their endeavors even in defeat. He was interacting with students of St Teresa's Girls Higher Secondary School in Kochi after participating virtually in the Prime Minister's Pareeksha Pe Charcha programme. Stating that failure is an excellent teacher, the Governor observed that no one is born extraordinary, but everyone has the potential to become extraordinary human beings. He observed that extraordinary people put new challenges before them every day and train their minds to face them.
-In the Kashmir Valley, an ancient sculpture of Lord Vishnu dating back to 9th Century was recovered from river Jehlum in Kakapora area of the Pulwama district. Official sources said that some labourers while extracting sand in river Jehleum in Lelhara Kakapora area of Pulwama district, found an ancient sculpture from the river. After finding the sculpture, they contacted the local police who rushed to the spot and took the sculpture into their possession. The sculpture is a three headed Lord Vishnu and is made of black and green colour stone, is a unique sculpture of the 9th Century, was later handed over to the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums of Jammu and Kashmir.
-Union Minister for Youth Affairs And Sports Anurag Thakur participated in the Khelo India University Games Logo and mascot launch event in Bengaluru on Friday. Welcoming Bangaloreans to the second edition of University Games, the minister called upon Universities to contribute for sports and earn Olympic medals for the country. He also urged upon people to remember the unsung sportspersons of India who brought laurels to the country especially before our Independence. Saying that wide scale efforts are being made to arrange expert coaching to the elite athletes, the Sports Minister said that Target Olympic Podium programme and setting up of Mission Olympic Committee are aimed at making our athletes potential medal winners in the forthcoming Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and at the 2024 Olympic Games. Listing out the decisions of the Prime Minister in making sports popular in India, Thakur said Yoga is today recognised world over through United Nations resolution. The minister also said that traditional sports like malkhamb will be promoted by the ministry. Speaking about the University Games that will begin on April 24th in Bengaluru, the minister appreciated the decision to make it a Green Game that will not use single-use plastic and follow environment-friendly practices. He informed that the first edition of University games held in Orissa had attracted around 3000 sports persons and in Bengaluru over 4500 athletes will be competing in various disciplines including Yoga and Malkhamb. He noted that the talents identified in the games will be given an opportunity to compete in the International events.
