The inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games entered its fourth day on Saturday, with a packed schedule of competitions across multiple disciplines in Raipur and Ambikapur.Events in swimming, weightlifting, and football are being held in Raipur, while wrestling competitions continue in Ambikapur, drawing participation from athletes representing states and Union Territories across the country.In football, four group-stage matches in the men’s category are lined up. The opening clash will see West Bengal take on Madhya Pradesh. Other fixtures include hosts Chhattisgarh facing Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep competing against Goa, and Mizoram playing Arunachal Pradesh.
Weightlifting events will feature finals in the women’s 69 kg and 77 kg categories, alongside the men’s 88 kg and 94 kg divisions. Meanwhile, swimming competitions will include finals in the men’s and women’s 100-metre freestyle, 50-metre backstroke, and the 4x100 metre medley relay.
Karnataka swimmer Manikanta L continued his dominant run on Thursday, clinching his third consecutive gold medal by winning the men’s 200m individual medley with a timing of 2:25.93 seconds. He had earlier secured gold medals in the 100m breaststroke and 50m butterfly, completing a golden hat-trick.Tripura’s Riaz Tripura claimed silver with 2:34.04 seconds, while Odisha’s Kanhu Soren finished with 2:36.21 seconds to take bronze.
In the women’s 200m individual medley, Odisha’s Anjali Munda secured her second gold medal of the competition, clocking 2:53.82 seconds. Host state Chhattisgarh’s Anushka Bhagat finished second with 2:59.33 seconds, earning her second silver medal of the Games, while Odisha’s Anjali Malik took bronze.Karnataka currently leads the medal tally with six gold and two silver medals, followed by Odisha in second place with three gold, one silver, and four bronze medals.
In weightlifting, Assam’s Monikha Sonowal displayed remarkable determination, winning gold in the women’s 48 kg category with a total lift of 132 kg (57 kg snatch and 75 kg clean and jerk) despite nursing a knee injury. Odisha’s Deepa Rani Malik secured silver with 120 kg, while Alaska Alina from Andaman and Nicobar Islands took bronze with 115 kg.
In the men’s category, Mizoram’s Isak Malsawmtluanga overcame a back injury to clinch gold with a total lift of 235 kg. Jharkhand’s Babulal Hembrom won silver with 230 kg, and Odisha’s Subrata Naik claimed bronze with 228 kg.
