Farmers on Tuesday defied the conditions set by the Delhi Police for the tractor rally and have started their rally two hours ahead of scheduled time leading to chaos and clashes with cops at many places in the National Capital Region. According to reports, farmers have deviated from the route for the tractor rally set by Delhi police, breached barricades and clashed with police at several in the national capital. Police used tear gas shells to disperse the protesting farmers at ITO in central Delhi.Delhi Police appealed to the protesting farmers to maintain peace. A senior official of Delhi Police urged them to not take law in their hands.Protesting farmers clashed with police and entered the iconic Red Fort.The farmers entered the forecourt of the Fort, climbed its ramparts, and hoisted a flag on a dais outside. The police have managed to remove them from inside the fort. Police chased them and clesred the Fort By 6.15, the entire crowd dispersed and the police took charge of the ground situation at ITO. Movement of vehicles iwas also restored on Vikas Marg. At least 19 people have been taken to two Delhi hospitals. Most of them suffered minor injuries.
NCP Chief Sharad Pawar. said that nobody will support whatever happened today but the reason behind it cannot be ignored either. Those sitting calmly grew angry, the Centre didn't fulfill its responsibility. Govt should act maturely & take the right decision, he also said.Congress leader Rahul Gandhi,Punjab CM Amrinder Singh, Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee and many other leaders also condemn the violance.In a statement, the farmers' body Samyukta Kisan Morcha said: "Anti-social elements had infiltrated the otherwise peaceful movement. We have always held that peace is our biggest strength, and that any violation would hurt the movement.
Union minister Amit Shah held a meeting with Delhi Police and home ministry officials to review the security situation in the national capital after violence broke out at farmers' rally in several areas. In the meeting, it was decided that additional paramilitary forces will be deployed in Delhi.Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel has said the Red Fort is a symbol of the dignity of Indian democracy and the agitators should have stayed away from it. He condemned undermining the dignity of the Red Fort. Patel termed the incident as unfortunate.
