Target of constructing 40 KM roads per day will be achieved by March end: Gadkari

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadakari said that the target of constructing 40 kilometre roads per day will be achieved by the end of March of this year. He informed that the government has already achieved the target of constructing 30 kilometres road per day. Addressing the media on Monday in New Delhi on the inauguration of National Road Safety Month, Gadakari said, everyday 415 people die in the country due to road accidents. He said, the government is committed to reduce the road accidents in the country by improving the road engineering and compliance measures. 
He added that 14 thousand crore rupees will be spent on identifying and repairing the black spots on the roads. He urged the stakeholders to cooperate in improving the road safety mechanism saying that compromise cannot be made with the life of the people. While speaking at the event, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, awareness cannot be restricted for a month and it should be made a continuous process. Terming roads a life line in the growth of economy, he said, roads play a critical role in the development of the country and the government is fully committed to improve the road connectivity by improving the road infrastructure. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off the National championship safe speed challenge to create awareness about road safety in the country. 
During the event, CEO of Niti Aayog, Amitabh Kant said that the government has taken vast numbers of measures to improve road safety. He said, works have been done to remove the black spots on the road to enhance the safety of the passengers.
