Taliban open fire as protest against Pakistan in Kabul

The Taliban on Tuesday fired shots into the air to disperse crowds who had gathered for an anti-Pakistan rally in the capital, the latest protest since the hardline movement swept to power last month. According to information, hundreds of Afghans, mostly women, took to the streets of Kabul on Tuesday in an anti-Pakistan rally in which they chanted slogans against Islamabad and ISI. As the protests intensified, the Taliban opened fire on the rally.

Asvaka News, a local media outlet reported that the Taliban opened fire on protesters gathered near the Presidential Palace in Kabul. The protesters were marching towards the Kabul Serena Hotel where the Pakistan ISI director has been staying since last week. Pakistan's intelligence chief Faiz Hameed  reportedly to be briefed by his country's ambassador but is likely to have also met with Taliban officials.

An Afghan journalist tweeted, "For several kilometres well-disciplined Taliban members allowed a protest of approx 300-500 to continue through the streets of Kabul. Talibs guarding Zanbak Square, however, fired in the air, beat protesters, vandalised a vehicle leading them and tore cameras from journalists."
