Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated several projects in Gujarat’s Somnath and laid the foundation stone for Parvati Temple, which is proposed to be constructed with a total outlay of Rs 30 crore. PM Modi also inaugurated other projects including the Somnath Promenade, Somnath Exhibition Centre, and the reconstructed temple precinct of Old (Juna) Somnath virtually.
Addressing the function PM Modi said we need to strengthen religious tourism. He also praised the projects and said, "this will also provide employment to youth. They (youth) will also get knowledge about our past." Modi said that Shri Somnath Temple is an integral part of Indian culture and ethos. He said that this temple was broken many times and effort was made to erase its existence in the history, but every time it got raised. Modi said that 'Bharat Jodo Andolan', is not limited to geographical or ideological affiliations, but also a resolve to connect us with our past to build the future India.He said that the arrangement of our four dhams, the concept of our Shaktipeeths and the establishment of different pilgrimages in different corners of the country is the outline of our faith and an expression of the spirit of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'.
Speaking on this occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said the government is providing modern facilities to all religious places under the PRASHAD scheme of the center. He said that the series of developmental works have been taken up after the Prime Minister Modi has taken over as the Chairman of Shri Somnath Trust. He said that the Somnath Trust is fully contributing in Swachcha Bharat campaign.Former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also joined the event along with other dignitaries.
