Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth around Rs33,500 crore in Delhi, including new Delhi Metro corridors — the Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur (Pink Line) and Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park (Magenta Line) — aimed at boosting urban connectivity and public transport in the national capital.
The projects are spread across several key government residential colonies, including Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Sriniwaspuri. These initiatives form part of the government’s broader effort to modernise ageing government housing and develop modern residential complexes and office infrastructure for central government employees. According to official information, the redevelopment programme aims to transform older government colonies into modern, well-planned urban spaces equipped with improved housing facilities, better connectivity, and upgraded civic infrastructure. The projects are being implemented through an innovative self-sustainable financial model, designed to ensure that redevelopment is carried out without placing additional burden on the public exchequer.Officials said the initiative is part of a larger plan to upgrade residential infrastructure for government employees while optimising land use in prime areas of Delhi. The redevelopment is also expected to create improved community spaces, commercial facilities and better living conditions for residents.
