India lifts special travel conditions for Yemen, withdraws notification

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has withdrawn the 2017 notification that imposed certain conditions on Indian citizens travelling to Yemen. The notification was issued after the civil war and armed conflict in Yemen severely deteriorated the security environment, leading India to regulate travel by its citizens to the country.
However, in an advisory, the Ministry of External Affairs said that it continues to advise all Indian nationals to refrain from non-essential travel to Yemen. MEA said that if travel is unavoidable, it should be undertaken only after a thorough assessment of the local security situation and travel to active conflict zones must be avoided. The Ministry advised Indian nationals residing in Yemen to be alert and to restrict their movements within Yemen.
MEA also advised Indian nationals in Yemen and those who need to travel to Yemen to register with the Embassy of India in Riyadh to facilitate better communication and assistance in case of emergencies. The 2017 order was issued after the civil war and armed conflict in Yemen severely deteriorated the security environment, leading India to regulate travel by its citizens to the country. In a new order issued on Friday under the Passports Act, 1967, the Centre rescinded its earlier notification dated October 3, 2017, which had prescribed special conditions for travel to Yemen due to the country’s deteriorating security situation.
