PM Modi launches Rs 14,700 crore projects in Haryana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth around Rs 14,700 crore in Haryana's Jind, including flagging off India's first hydrogen-powered passenger train and unveiling key road, rail, healthcare and cultural infrastructure projects.Addressing a gathering at Eklavya Stadium, Modi said the development initiatives reflected the Centre's commitment to transforming Haryana's infrastructure and creating new employment opportunities for the state's youth."The affection and love that all of you have given me is something I have never forgotten," the Prime Minister said while addressing the gathering.

Earlier in the day, Modi flagged off India's first hydrogen-powered passenger train between Jind and Sonipat. Developed by Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF), the train will operate on the 89-km route under Northern Railway's Delhi Division.Describing the 3,200-horsepower hydrogen-powered train as a major technological milestone, Modi said it was unlike conventional rail services and that dedicated infrastructure and systems had been developed in Jind to support its operations. He said the project would generate new employment opportunities while strengthening India's transition towards clean and sustainable transport.

According to media reports, during the programme, the Prime Minister also handed over symbolic keys to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin and said Jind was emerging as "a picture of the NDA's governance" through the Centre's development initiatives.

Among the major projects inaugurated were National Highway works worth over Rs 12,470 crore. Modi dedicated the 157.92-km, four-lane, fully access-controlled Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway (Packages 1 to 5), built at a cost of around Rs 9,680 crore. The expressway, part of the 667-km Delhi-Amritsar-Katra corridor, is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Katra from about 14 hours to nearly six hours, while cutting the Delhi-Amritsar journey from around eight hours to four hours. It is also expected to ease congestion on NH-44, improve connectivity to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and boost industrial and logistics development along the route. The Prime Minister also dedicated the 33.81-km Ambala-Kala Amb Highway on NH-7 and NH-344, which is expected to strengthen connectivity between Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, improve access to the Kala Amb industrial belt and facilitate tourism to the hill regions.
Another key project inaugurated was the 40.60-km Jind-Gohana Greenfield Highway on NH-352A. The highway will reduce travel time between Jind and Gohana from nearly two hours to about 40 minutes while improving connectivity with Rohtak, Panipat and the Delhi-NCR region.Modi also laid the foundation stone for the 24.27-km Hansi-Barwala Brownfield Highway Project, which will upgrade the existing road to a two/four-lane configuration with paved shoulders.
In the rail sector, the Prime Minister dedicated the elevated railway track at Kurukshetra, aimed at eliminating traffic congestion at railway crossings, improving road safety and enhancing the efficiency of both rail and road transport. To strengthen healthcare infrastructure, Modi inaugurated Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government Medical College in Bhiwani and Maharishi Chyawan Medical College and Rao Tula Ram Hospital at Koriawas in Narnaul. The institutions are expected to expand medical education, increase MBBS seats and improve access to specialist healthcare services in the state. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Sikh Museum at Kurukshetra, which will showcase the history of Sikhism, the teachings and sacrifices of the Sikh Gurus, and the contribution of the Sikh community to India's civilisation through modern technology.

The launch of the hydrogen-powered train marked another highlight of the visit. Designed, engineered and integrated in India using indigenous technology, the 10-coach train is among the longest hydrogen-powered passenger trains in the world and is powered by a 3,200-horsepower propulsion system.
