Prime Minister Narendra Modi this year celebrated Deepawali with soldiers guarding borders at Nowshera in Jammu & Kashmir on Thursday. Addressing the soldiers,he said all jawans are like his family and the country's soldiers are the Suraksha Kawach of Maa Bharti. Modi said it is because of the brave soldiers who guard the borders without sleep, the people inside the country can sleep peacefully and they can celebrate festivals with happiness. Modi said, he is at Nowshera not as a Prime minister but as a member of the family of the soldiers. Today's India is Atmanirbhar & Sashakt and 65% of our defence budget goes into buying defence equipment that is Made in India. And we indigenously manufacture advanced defence equipment under the Make in India campaign, the Prime Minister added. Modi said the Young India is flourishing with Startups that are doing wonders & soon we will emerge as major Defence exports.

The Prime Minister also lauded women soldiers. He said the role of women in the area of security of the nation is touching newer heights. The women are being given permanent commission in the army now. Giving a strong warning to terror sponsors, Prime minister said terrorists made many attempts to disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir but all were thwarted by our forces. Prime Minister offered sweets personally to soldiers on the occasion and also had lunch with the Bravehearts at the border.

Army general M M Naravane is also in Nowshera. Prime Minister Modi also paid floral tributes to the martyrs at Nowshera.
