C. Joseph Vijay sworn in as Tamil Nadu chief minister

TVK chief C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at a grand ceremony held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, marking the beginning of a new political chapter in the state.The actor-turned-politician and chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam(TVK) took the oath of office and secrecy amid loud cheers and celebrations by thousands of supporters gathered inside and outside the venue.
Dressed in a white shirt, blazer and black trousers, Vijay’s oath-taking ceremony turned into a massive public spectacle as supporters waved TVK flags and burst crackers across the state. His opening words, “C Joseph Vijay yennum naan,” triggered thunderous applause from the audience.Vijay’s elevation to the top post marks a significant political shift in Tamil Nadu, making him the state’s first non-Dravidian chief minister in nearly six decades. His rise from cinema superstar to chief minister is being viewed as one of the most dramatic political transitions in recent state history.

According to information, following Vijay’s swearing-in, nine members of his council of ministers also took oath. Among them, K. A. Sengottaiyan was the only experienced ministerial face, having previously served in governments since the era of former chief minister M. G. Ramachandran. The remaining ministers will be serving in government for the first time.The ceremony witnessed the presence of several political leaders and film personalities. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attended the swearing-in ceremony, marking the Congress party’s participation in a ruling dispensation in Tamil Nadu for the first time since 1967.
Actor Trisha Krishnan also attended the event, drawing cheers from fans as she watched her longtime co-star take oath as chief minister.The formation of the government followed days of intense political negotiations after TVK emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, falling short of the majority mark by 10 seats.While the Congress quickly extended support, Vijay later secured backing from Left parties, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and the Indian Union Muslim League, enabling him to stake claim to form the government.
Governor Rajendra Arlekar administered the oath and formally invited Vijay to form the government after support from alliance partners ensured a working majority.Observers noted Vijay’s warm welcome to the governor before the ceremony as politically significant in a state where relations between elected governments and governors have often witnessed friction.
