The Gujarat govrnment has decided to continue the night curfew in four districts. According to Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Pankaj Kumar said on Saturday that the night curfew will be enforced between 11 pm to 6 am in the cities of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot to prevent further spread of the novel coronavirus. He further said that the Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 96.94 per cent but there is a "need to remain cautious, vigilant and adhere to the prescribed containment strategy to prevent and completely eradicate the Covid-19 transmission".
The government has also increased the cap on the number of guests allowed during wedding in the state from 100 to 200. A banquet hall or community hall used for religious or entertainment purposes can also be utlitised for up to 50 per cent of its seating capacity. Strict adherence to the SOPs will be ensured with respect to large gatherings, weddings, places of worship, malls, restaurants, hotels, cinema halls, swimming pools, gymnasiums, exhibitions, schools, colleges, Additional Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar said.
In Gujarat, the night curfew was introduced in December last year following a post-Diwali spike in the number of new cases of Covid-19 in the four cities of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot between 10 pm and 6 am. According to the Gujarat government's health department, the state has 3,589 active cases. The state has reported a total of 2,60,901 confirmed cases of Covid-19, including 4,385 infection-related deaths to date.
