Nation pays homage to martyrs of 2001 Parliament terror attack

The nation pays homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives defending Parliament House in the terrorist attack on December 13 2001. On the 20th anniversary of terror attack on Parliament, both the Houses of Parliament on Monday paid rich tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives in protecting the Temple of Democracy. Both the Houses also reiterated their firm resolve to fight terrorism with determination. On this day in 2001, evil forces of terrorism tried to sabotage the Parliament, however, their sinister motives were thwarted by the timely action of country’s valiant security forces who kept a constant vigil of the situation and were steadfast in protecting Parliament even to the extent of laying down their lives.

When the House met, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu in his reference mentioned that the House recalls with gratitude the supreme sacrifices of our security personnel including two of the Parliament Security Service Staff along with five Delhi Police Personnel and a woman constable of the Central Reserve Police Force. One gardener of the CPWD and a cameraperson were also martyred on the fateful day. Naidu said, by sacrificing their lives, these martyrs have set an example of indomitable courage and outstanding devotion of duty.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, in his opening remarks, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that the security personnel of Parliament Security, Delhi Police and CRPF have made supreme sacrifice in protecting the Temple of Democracy. The Speaker said it was a cowardly attack on the symbol of democracy of the country and it was foiled by the security personnel with great courage. He said the day makes our commitment more strong for unity, integrity and sovereignty towards the country.
