Fondly known as ‘Chacha Nehru’, Jawaharlal Nehru served as the first Prime Minister of independent India from August 15, 1947, until his death on May 27, 1964.Nehru passed away at the age of 74 after serving an uninterrupted tenure of 6,130 days as Prime Minister, making him the longest-serving Prime Minister in India’s history.A key figure in India’s freedom struggle, Nehru played a central role in shaping the country’s democratic institutions and post-independence development agenda.Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi last year surpassed former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to become the second longest-serving Prime Minister of India in consecutive terms after completing 4,078 days in office.
