Jammu & Kashmir: 2 jawans, one terrorist killed in Shopian encounter

In Jammu and Kashmir, two Army jawans were killed and a terrorist also died in the encounter that began on Saturday at Shopian district. Kashmir Zone Police said that the encounter started on Saturday morning in the Zainapora and Chermarg areas of Shopian when the security forces were carrying out search operations.  A search operation is being carried out by security forces in the area. According to Kashmir Zone Police, the deceased armed forces personnel are identified as Santosh Yadav and Chavan Romit Tanaji, both from 1 Rashtriya Rifles (RR).

Police said as the forces were conducting searches in the area, the hiding militants fired upon them. The forces retaliated, ensuing an encounter, in which a militant was killed, the official said. The identity and group affiliation of the slain ultra is being ascertained, police said.
